Kyle Rittenhouse Shooting: Kenosha Faces $20 Million Lawsuit
Kyle Rittenhouse fatally shot two people during an August protest over the police shooting of Jacob Blake. His arraignment is scheduled for January 5, however, the families of his victims have now filed a lawsuit.
On August 25 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the 17-year-old killed Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26. He also injured 26-year-old Gaige Grosskreutz. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Grosskreutiz and the parents of Huber each served $10 million, claim notices with both the city and county.
It’s not clear if Rosenbaum’s family were included in the claim, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also reports.
An attorney for Grosskreutz said in a statement, “We believe there was some level of negligence on behalf of the city and county.”
Rittenhouse has claimed he fired the shots in self-defense.
Rittenhouse was arrested at his home in Antioch, Illinois a day after the shootings. There are questions surrounding why Rittenhouse, who lived in Illinois, was even in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
His lawyers claimed a business owner invited him to protect property but have not identified who made the request.
Rittenhouse received help from child actor Ricky Schroder to post the $2 million bail and he is now out on the streets.
Dominick Black, 19, the man who said that he purchased a rifle for Rittenhouse, has been charged with two counts of intentionally supplying a dangerous weapon to a minor, causing death, the Kenosha News reports.
Kyle Rittenhouse has been charged with five felonies, including first-degree intentional homicide.
